Rooftop Battle Video – Matt Ford vs. Merritt

We had to simultaneous events happening at the FBCSmyrna campus this past Wednesday night: Fuel Fight Nite and Rush Hour in 3D. David McCaman thought we needed more for the 3D event. We were also looking for a bumper for the Fight Night event before his message there. The day before, Tuesday, August 31st, I took our two student interns, Matt Ford and Jordan Merritt up to the roof and staged a “battle” that would serve a dual purpose! The first would be to 3D-itize the resulting video for the Rush Hour bumper, and then to show the skit as the Fuel bumper!

Before I show you, I want to explain a little bit on how it was made and the process. A lot of videographers are concerned with workflow. Mine’s very simple. I shot it on one of our smaller field cameras, a Panasonic HMC 150, at 72p30n, which means a high definition signal of 720 progressive lines at 30 natural frames per second. The “n,” or “natural” isn’t a fancy video term, it’s just a way that the video is saved onto the Panasonic’s P2 cards. My next step was loading in the shots from the camera through DV into Final Cut Pro via Log and Transfer. I kept the clip settings the same in my sequence as the format I recorded them in. After editing, I colored each of the clips with a FCP plug in called Mojo and used the standard FCP Vignette with adjusted settings for a slight darkening. I exported it in 2 formats: the first as an h.264 video that I would take to the computer for the screens, and then as a current settings format, which hasn’t reencoded anything or changed the codec at all (in some cases, I’ll work with the files in a ProRes 422 sequence) to upload to YouTube.

ServiceU Logo

Many years ago, our middle school’s “Sunday school” time was conceived and launched. It was called ServiceU and is about worship and discipleship, teaching 6th-8th graders to think service-minded. I recently revamped the logo (only slight changes stylistically) and updated the file that I had so we can start using it again. There’s not much more to say about it, so I’ll just show you. Enjoy!

Fuel Fight Night, Rush Hour in 3D, SCC F/RH Prestige

Prepare for an onslaught of images, a barrage of business cards, and a plethora of posters, because Fuel and Rush Hour at both LifePoint campuses is upon us! If you don’t know, Fuel is a biannual outreach event just for high schoolers, and Rush Hour is for middle schoolers. Stewarts creek does a combined Fuel/Rush Hour event, because even though their ministry is growing, they are still combined in student ministry.

We held the event last night, and things went great! I just wanted to share with you all of the deliverables I created for the events, which are many. I’ll put them in a gallery to make it easier, so click the thumbnail to view the full-size image!

What we create for these events are this:

Fliers, for them to pass out at school
Posters, to hang up around the church for promo
Business cards, in bands of 10, to give out to friends
Logo and verse slides for scripture during the message

Chamber of Secrets – Student Series

The back to school series is called Chamber of Secrets! It’s a great series we wrote all about the secret of the Gospel and how sometimes we as Christians hide it from the world. This idea was born out of a creative meeting we had as the student ministry team to plan the fall of 2010. We thought this may be fun because of the near-universality of Harry Potter, even though we took care not to brand it as “Harry Potter.” We thought it also may play on another level because of the upcoming movie due out in theaters. So far, the series has been a good one, especially because students are just now going back to school after these lessons about unleashing a great power!

Preschool Leadership Training

I love how our various ministries here at LifePoint really make it a point to train and enable leaders to teach children, students, small group, and how to do all sorts of activities. These two print pieces were from the latest preschool training for this upcoming school year. It was awesome to see leaders encourage other leaders with stories of life change, and also listening the tips shared by Brittany, our Director of Preschool to make those leaders as successful as possible. The two print pieces are signage promoting the meeting for our preschool volunteers and a centerpiece for the tables (they had a delicious breakfast!) Hope you enjoy!

Forward Motion – Student Series

Forward Motion… What a great series! It was the first one of me being on the job. This series was all about your walk with Christ (isn’t every series like that though? ) This one was very simple, as it was a summer series. Provided for your viewing pleasure are: logo and verse slides, bumper, and small group question templates. Those are the 4 basic elements we use for each series.

Awake O Sleeper Camp T-Shirt

I had the pleasure of helping brainstorm and design camp t-shirts. Sully, LifePoint’s graphics guru ran with a few designs of his own, creating a super slick plum-colored alarm clock-themed shirt as well as the awesome red/yellow Wake Up camp tee that everyone got for attending. Last year, Scott Mills and I went to David McCaman and asked him to have the option of a v-neck as a canteen t-shirt that students could buy. He thought it too risky and wanted to make sure it sold, so he denied our pleas. This year, we asked again and he gave the go ahead! We were all pretty pumped, so I took an idea of a more edgy design and created this shirt, which sold very well! I’m proud of it. Hope you enjoy!

Ultimate Bingo and Minute to Win It – Camp Late Nite Games

I love having fun at camp, and Late Nite is a time to do just that. We played a game of Ultimate Bingo for one of the nights. We presented clues and had kids fill in their own Bingo board. Then, we read clued as we drew them in random order and had them cross off ones that apply. It was a great time! We also took the popular Minute to Win It game show and adapted it to play at camp, which was also very fun! These are screen graphics I created for those games. You will notice there is a weird vertically-oriented graphics too. That is because we ran 3 screens on the set, with 2 being 42″ vertical flatscreens. The look was pretty awesome. Heroes – Student Series

This one was fun! I love the concept, I love the branding, I loved working on the design! The series was all about cool Bible heroes and their stories. We dissect them, break them down, and pull from it Christian principals we can all follow to become the heroes. It was very fun. We had a very weird summer as far as programming Wednesdays goes, so the call was to make this a 5 week series split in two: a 3 weeker, then break for the “pre-camp” series, and then finish out the summer after Camp Share and before the off-week with the other 2 weeks of Heroes. Turned out to work pretty nice. By the end of the summer, we’re all so worn out anyways, we don’t want to have to create all new stuff.

I’m please to present you with the artwork and video for this series. You’ll first see the logo, inspired by old comic books, and the logo slide of course. I love the subtle paper texture and bold colors. For the small group questions, I kept the design consistent (and used Comic Sans! EEK!); we add blanks on this for notes, and I thought it would be interesting to break it up like in comic books. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. The bumper is also below. This was done in After Effects, took a few hours and highlighted all the sweet Heroes we would be looking at. The music in the background is of course Jurassic Park. How much more epic could you get?

As an added bonus at the end here, I’ll post a gallery of some signage I created for the 2-week portion of this series, as middle and high school was all combined, we had also switched venues. Rock on!

Upside Down Kingdom – Student Series

This series art all started with Jordan Merritt and myself sitting int the soundbooth of The Hub shooting the breeze while we worked. He said something to the effect that yellow was his favorite color and he wants a logo with just yellow. I said that’s too much to ask, and that I’ll do it if he gives me black also.

Challenge accepted!

So this logo was born from a series that Students actually purchased I believe. We just bought the series for the talks, and we redid all of the art and bumper ourselves. I loved the bold color contrast. Good suggestion, Jordan! Hope you all enjoy. As always, you get the logo, the verse slide, the small group questions, and the bumper!
